THE PRACTICE

Vocal Alchemy brings together four dimensions of musicianship that are too often studied separately:

VOICE

Technical freedom, dexterity & embodied vocal practice.

EAR

Interval awareness, modal fluency, harmonic listening & tuning.

ENSEMBLE

Choral improvisation, spontaneous composition & the practice of listening in relation.

COMPOSITION LAB

Bring your unfinished work. Songs, sketches, fragments, concepts and improvisations become material for collective exploration.

Together, we'll become the vocal ensemble your music needs.

Between gatherings, a growing library of guided vocal exercises and the AÏM Commons will support individual practice, exchange and creative momentum.

WHO THIS IS FOR

This apprenticeship is designed for accomplished singers who are ready to expand their musicianship

through rigorous listening, experimentation, and collective practice.

Whether your background is jazz, folk, experimental, classical, traditional, or self-directed,

the essential prerequisites are artistic maturity, self-leadership, curiosity, commitment, and a desire for mutual expansion.

WHY I’M OFFERING THIS

My own vocal development has been rooted in mutual listening:

receiving and sharing embodied wisdom through presence, practice and relation.

A lifetime devoted to music as an art and the voice as a musical instrument led me to understand that the Art of Listening is, above all, a practice of self-knowledge that naturally matures into relational intelligence.

Vocal Alchemy weaves together body and mind, technique and creativity, structure and freedom. More than transforming my musicianship, it transformed the way I relate to learning, creating and listening.

I now feel called to share this work with a small group of dedicated singers—not to shape your voice into mine, but to support the kind of vocal mastery from which your own truthful expression and creative freedom can emerge.

Anaïs Maviel is a vocalist, composer, percussionist and music director whose work spans improvisation, composition, embodied vocal practice and music traditions from across the world.
